The tragic murder of George Floyd, and the murder of countless other members of the black community, has finally pushed us to collectively say “enough is enough”.
I am a white male. I have never and will never walk in the shoes of a black women or man. I will never know what it’s like to be persecuted for the color of my skin. I am inherently privileged because I am not black but that doesn’t mean I can’t help.
So what can I do to help? I can start by listening and reading. There are a lot of brave members of the black community out there sharing their stories of racial profiling, prejudice, and the injustices that they face each day. Stories like this;
I can donate to a cause and I implore you to do the same, www.NAACP.com is a great place to start.
I can get more involved in my local and state elections. Policy changes start at our local levels of government and I can help support the changes we so desperately need by voting.
I ask you, how can I help? What else can I do? I have a voice, albeit a very tiny and minuscule voice, but a voice non the less. If I just sit here and say nothing, then I am part of the problem.
