How can I help?

This is a blog about my journey into tech. But that really isn’t important at this time. So I hope you’ll read the following.

There is a lot of anger, fear, sadness, and frustration boiling over in America (well the entire world really) right now and understandably so. Racism is not new in our world and obviously has been a terrible problem throughout history. The tragic murder of George Floyd, and the murder of countless other members of the black community, has finally pushed us to collectively say “enough is enough”.

I am a white male. I have never and will never walk in the shoes of a black women or man. I will never know what it’s like to be persecuted for the color of my skin. I am inherently privileged because I am not black but that doesn’t mean I can’t help.

So what can I do to help? I can start by listening and reading. There are a lot of brave members of the black community out there sharing their stories of racial profiling, prejudice, and the injustices that they face each day. Stories like this;

I can donate to a cause and I implore you to do the same, www.NAACP.com is a great place to start.

I can get more involved in my local and state elections. Policy changes start at our local levels of government and I can help support the changes we so desperately need by voting.

I ask you, how can I help? What else can I do? I have a voice, albeit a very tiny and minuscule voice, but a voice non the less. If I just sit here and say nothing, then I am part of the problem.
